The surface used with Teflon tape must be clean, smooth, and dust-free.
Scrub the surface with a brush or cloth to remove grease, paint, varnish, and other impurities. Before use, allow any solvent to evaporate and ensure the surface is dry.
Adjusting Teflon tape:
Cut the Teflon tape to the appropriate length and width according to your needs.
If the tape is wider, you can split it in half to better fit different surfaces.
Apply or wrap Teflon tape:
For liquid Teflon tape, cut off the top of the plastic bottle and squeeze the adhesive directly onto the threads, making sure to apply it evenly, without any bubbles or wrinkles.
For solid Teflon tape (the standard Teflon tape roll), wrap it counterclockwise around the threads of the faucet or other components that require sealing. Ensure the Teflon tape does not completely cover the threaded opening, to avoid affecting installation.
Tightly wrap the tape around the threads, applying gentle pressure to ensure a secure wrap. The number of wraps typically ranges from 5 to 10, depending on the thickness of the Teflon tape and the sealing requirements.
Wait for drying (if applicable):
If using liquid Teflon tape, please wait for it to dry after application. During the drying process, avoid applying any pressure or friction to the Teflon tape.
Installation and tightening:
Align the connecting components and slowly tighten them during installation.
Tighten using a standard wrench or the appropriate tool, and avoid over-tightening to prevent damage.
Tighten once, and avoid twisting back and forth, as this could cause leaks.
Important Notes
Safety:
Teflon tape should not come into contact with open flames, as it can release toxic gases.
When using, personal protective equipment such as gloves should be worn.
Applicability:
Teflon tape is not suitable for sealing pure oxygen or strong oxidizing agents.
It is not suitable for sealing and locking pipe threads under high-temperature conditions exceeding 150°C.
Disassembly and Reuse:
Depending on the size of the pipe, use appropriate tools and methods for disassembly to avoid damaging the threads.
After disassembly, use a wire brush to remove any residual adhesive from the fitting, and the fitting can be reused by either reapplying adhesive or wrapping it with fresh Teflon tape.
Storage and Preservation:
Store Teflon tape in a dry, cool place, avoiding direct sunlight and high-temperature environments.
Ensure that Teflon tape is used within its expiration date to avoid performance degradation caused by expiry.
