How to Properly Use Teflon Tape?

he Teflon tape will be applied is clean, smooth, and free of dust.
Use a brush or cloth to scrub the surface, removing grease, paint, varnish, and other impurities. Allow any solvents to evaporate and the surface to dry before use.
Adjust the Teflon Tape:
Cut the Teflon tape to the appropriate length and width according to your needs.
If the tape is wide, you can split it into halves to better fit different surfaces.
Apply or Wrap the Teflon Tape:
For liquid Teflon tape, cut off the top of the plastic bottle and squeeze the adhesive directly onto the threads, ensuring even application without bubbles or wrinkles.
For solid Teflon tape (the usual Teflon tape roll), wrap it counterclockwise along the threads of the faucet or other part that needs sealing. Make sure the Teflon tape does not completely cover the thread opening to avoid affecting installation.
Apply the tape tightly around the threads, applying slight pressure to ensure a close wrap. The number of wraps is usually 5-10, depending on the thickness of the Teflon tape and the sealing requirements.
Wait for Drying (if applicable):
If using liquid Teflon tape, wait for it to dry after application. During the drying process, avoid applying any pressure or friction to the Teflon tape.
Install and Tighten:
Align the connection parts and tighten them slowly during installation.
Use a regular wrench or appropriate tool for tightening, avoiding overtightening that could cause damage.
Tighten once and avoid turning back and forth, as this may cause leaks.
Precautions
Safety:
Teflon tape should not come into contact with open flames, as it can produce toxic gases.
Wear personal protective equipment, such as gloves, during use.
Applicability:
Teflon tape is not suitable for sealing pure oxygen or strong oxidant media.
It is not suitable for pipe thread sealing and locking under high temperature conditions above 150°C.
Removal and Reuse:
Use appropriate tools and methods for removal based on the size of the pipe, avoiding damage to the threads.
Residual adhesive on the joint after removal should be removed using a wire brush, and the joint can be reused by reapplying adhesive or wrapping with new Teflon tape.
Storage and Preservation:
Store Teflon tape in a dry, cool place, avoiding direct sunlight and high-temperature environments.
Ensure that Teflon tape is used within its validity period to avoid performance degradation due to expiration.
By following these steps and precautions, you can ensure the proper use of Teflon tape and achieve the desired sealing effect.
